The Premier League title race is not over, here’s why
Liverpool may be nine points ahead of Manchester City following their 3-1 win at Anfield on Sunday, yet you would be foolish to believe the Premier League title race is over. While all eyes remain in Manchester City the distance they sit behind Liverpool, Leicester City and Chelsea are level on points are just eight points back of the Reds. With Liverpool heading to Qatar in December for the FIFA Club World Cup, the Reds will play nine matches in all competitions during the month. The title race is far from over and December will determine whether or not Liverpool win their first league title in 30 years. Liverpool fans are gearing up for the big month of football and fans can bet in NJ on all nine of the Reds’ games over the course of December.
With so much football on the menu for Liverpool, December could see the Reds’ eight-point lead over second-place and third-place Leicester City and Chelsea evaporate.
The Case for Leicester City
Liverpool have already beaten Leicester City at Anfield, 2-1, but the Foxes are not going away. Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has the team playing well and the King Power Stadium is a fortress. Leicester City’s home form will be tested by Liverpool in December and fans can use the latest top bonus to wager on the team they believe will win the match.
Leicester City are unbeaten at home with 16 points from 18 taken. The road hasn’t been quite as kind as 10 points from 18 have been obtained. Most notably, Leicester City have struggled away to the traditional big teams in the league. Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool all took points off of Leicester City at their home stadiums. The Foxes have taken just one point from games with those three teams.
Still, Leicester City have a title chance due to the low number of games they will play this season. Leicester City do not have the Champions League or Club World Cup to compete in and players will stay fresh.
Leicester City will host Liverpool on Boxing Day. Could the Foxes inch closer to the title? With several traditional teams having poor seasons, this year feels like 2015-16 when Leicester City won the Premier League.
The Case for Chelsea
Chelsea started the season poorly under manager Frank Lampard but have since righted the ship. Chelsea are level on points with Leicester City but due to goal difference, sit in third-place. Unlike Leicester City, Chelsea have not beaten up on the lesser teams of the league such as Newcastle United and Southampton, which padded the Foxes’ goal difference
Stamford Bridge has not been kind to the Blues although they have won three straight games at home in the league. Liverpool won at Stamford Bridge earlier this season and will welcome Chelsea to Anfield in the spring. Liverpool have a lot of football to play between now and then and points could be lost.
The Blues have a season-defining match when the Premier League returns after the international break against Manchester City. The two sides will play at the Etihad and a loss would certainly count the Blues out of the title race. Conversely, a win would keep them in the race for a Premier League trophy.
While Liverpool may be eight points ahead of Leicester City and Chelsea with 12 games played, it is foolish to count the two sides out. A lot of football must be played and Liverpool have a marathon December coming up.
