Will Coronavirus Affect How Premier League Clubs Operate in the Future?
There is a lot of uncertainty around the Premier League right now, both in terms of what will happen with the end of this season and what will happen moving forward. No one has the answers yet, and we may have a few more weeks of uncertainty, but whatever the ending is, will it change how Premier League clubs operate in the future?
New Rules and Procedures to be Created?
The coronavirus pandemic is at a level that we have never seen before. It may be that we never see anything like it again in our lifetime, but Premier League clubs will want to try and put something in place just in case it does. This will involve rules to support the league should the same happen again, how things are to be decided and much more. With these in place, making tough decisions for whoever is in charge at the time should be much easier.
Operating Behind Closed Doors
If the Premier League comes back this season, it is likely to be behind closed doors. This is something new for the league and officials, and rules will need to be made. These are likely to be discussed over the coming days. We all want to watch football live, but if we must have it behind closed doors then it is better than nothing. Football has excellent television and streaming deals, so watching a game for fans is incredibly easy, regardless of whether it is behind closed doors or not. You can watch the match online at several bookmakers that offer live streaming on all Premier League games. Should the games go behind closed doors then there will be even more interest in watching games from home, either on TV or via a live stream. This is something that the league will have to look at, and potentially end the 3 pm blackout for Saturday fixtures to allow fans of all clubs to watch their team taking part in games while they are not allowed to attend. There is nothing to suggest the league will be coming back anytime soon, but measures like this one will be there both now and, in the future if needed. The chances of us seeing another pandemic like this may be very slim, but having rules in place will allow those in charge to make decisions much quicker than we have seen recently.
